ENSCO, Inc., a technology research and development company in Falls Church, Va., have expertise in custom geolocation and tracking solutions.

Springfield, Va., February 13, 2009
This article is featured in MEMSense E-mailer (February 2009 issue).
The company uses MEMSense's nano-IMU in its inertial navigation technology to provide passive, self-contained tracking and location solutions for first responders in situations where GPS coverage is not available or has been denied.

ENSCO Dalmatian is a self-contained indoor inertial navigation technology system, providing passive, self-contained tracking and location solutions for first responders in GPS-Denied situations.Currently, there is no accurate way to locate and lead to safety first responders working at the scene of fires, explosions, and other disasters. ENSCO's product, called Dalmatian, is a self-contained indoor navigation system that accurately performs with or without the aid of GPS or other locating systems. It integrates MEMsense's industrial grade IMU with unconventional data analysis to provide real-time meter-level position accuracy. Dalmatian has been designed to support the varied movements of a first responder, including climbing, crawling, sidestepping, and running.

ENSCO's geolocation and tracking solutions use sophisticated modeling tools and signal processing algorithms that deliver performance levels comparable to expensive navigation-grade IMUs while using significantly less expensive industrial-grade IMUs.

The benefit of using MEMsense's industrial-grade IMUs is two-fold. From a financial perspective, the cost is significantly less than that of navigation- or tactical- grade IMUs. From a functionality and application perspective, the small size of MEMsense's IMUs provides a significant benefit for system packaging and integration.

ENSCO has been using MEMsense's IMUs for four years. More details about ENSCO's innovative use of nano-IMUs can be found at www.geonav.ensco.com.
